[MWForum]archive and attachments; passwords; etc.

I have set up a separate page for accessing attachments sent to this
list, since they do not seem to be accessible in the archives. You
will find separate links to the archives and the attachments page
at:

http://lists.mathcats.com/mailman/listinfo/mwforum

Also, if you wish to change your membership options or to view the
members list, you need to have a password, and since I manually
subscribed all of you, apparently the list service has assigned you
all random passwords. From the main information page (the link
above), you can enter your e-mail address and click on the "Edit
Options" button at the bottom of the page, and on the next page you
can click another button to "Email my password to me." It will
arrive almost immediately. You are then welcome to change your
password to anything you wish and to change your membership options.

About the attachments:

There is only one attachment there at the moment. It is a Word
document (PC), and so it will still not be accessible to some
members. Please e-mail me off-list if you wish to receive a text
version (without graphics). If you have Word for PC on your
computer, then the attachment will open as a Word document when you
click the link.

That creates a problem when it comes to MW attachments. I tested a
link to a sample MW project: the project itself opened online, but I
could not find a way to save it to my hard drive, and there is no
way to view procedures when the project is open as an online file.
So I think for future MW attachments, I will turn them into zip
files before uploading them to the attachments page. Then (if you
are a PC user), you will be able to save these zip files to your
hard drive and unzip the projects offline. However, Mac users (I
think) will not be able to unzip Winzip files. I would suggest, if
you are a Mac user, that you set your membership option to receive
individual e-mails (not the digest), and then you can receive all
attachments. The Mac version of MW can open MW projects for both
platforms; first launch MW, then navigate to the saved PC
attachment. Please note: There are still some compatibility issues
if a MW 2.0 user wishes to open a MW Pro project (MW Pro is
backwards-compatible on a PC but not on a Mac).

When sending a MicroWorlds project to the list, please indicate to
us if it is MW 2.0 or MW Pro and if it is PC or Mac.

If anyone has a better idea about sharing attached projects easily,
please let me know!

(Also, please accept my apologies for the second copy of a message I
sent to the list 6 days ago which arrived tonight after floating in
cyberspace for 6 days. I had long since given up on it and sent
another copy of the message which you received last Saturday
morning.)
