[MWForum] Save and print

I agree with Wendy - the need to save their work is the perfect learning
opportunity. It might take more time intervention on your behalf - but that
is time well spent.
In the same way that you can use the CTRL-S you can attach the instruction
saveproject to a button.
Better to use the learning opportunity and use the File menu. Very young
students are very capable.

I don't think there is a way to save or print under program control,
but I'm not sure we'd be doing young students a favor to set this up
even if it were possible. When I taught grades 1 - 5, pretty much the
first thing I taught the youngest ones was how to use the menus that
they will find in all computer applications... including saving to a
particular location (their own folder) on the school's network. And
then I taught them to press CTRL-S every few minutes after the initial
save (which we did before we created any content!), because I have a
"thing" about that! I hate to see work get lost when a kid
accidentally kicks a power cord (for instance). I resave my own work
every minute or so, really!
But I did set up SAVE_PICTURE buttons (and procedures) to make it easy
for younger students to save drawings (and stamped transparent
textboxes) created in MW as external GIF files which could then be
printed or automatically collected together into a whole-class
slideshow. This automatic saving procedure would incorporate the
student's name into the file's name (if the student had entered
his/her name in the proper textbox in the corner of the project). It
would add a number at the end of the file name and this number would
automatically increase so that the project would not try to save two
or more files of the same name. And I included another button for
viewing the automatically-assembled class slideshow.
But this is not what you are asking for! Still, I think I'll dig up
and post the automatic slideshow project later today. I think it's a
very useful utility.
