Thanks for your reply, but it doesn't appear that the depth of the color
palette is the culprit.
On my Windows 2000 platform I just now tested 8-bit (256 color), 16-bit
(65,000 colors), and 32-bit color palettes, exiting and restarting MW 2.03
between each color palette change. All the results of testing colorunder
were exactly the same, with colorunder reporting various different numbers
than were set using setc, e.g. setc 90 fill showcolorunder   ==> 80.1

I am still stumped on this one.
