I have no experience on the Mac version of EX. I have implemented
MicroWorlds EX and Robotics in a PC environment (Pentium II and higher) in a
couple of schools (all elementary and middle) in Toronto, Canada. Although
it does run slightly slower than the Pro version, the difference is not that
bad. Certainly the functionality of EX makes the version the preferred
choice.
Advice - close the backpacks when you animate if speed is an issue. They can
easily be opened as needed.

Could you help give me some perspective on using Microworlds Ex? I
had enough trouble with it in my last elective session that I'm going
back to using Pro with kids in the next one. I'm wondering if the
problems are typical or have a solution. My school's tech support
person contacted LCSI and tells me they said wait for a new version.
The main problem is speed. Transitions between menus or pages take
longer than in Pro. When kids click on a turtle backback there can
be a good five-count of spinning before it opens. Opening and
closing the graphics tool is worse. Having more than one turtle
running with something in its backpack results in slow movements
which frustrate kids used to Pro.
The other big one is that freeze-ups are frequent, almost daily
problems. I haven't seen any pattern to what causes the freezes.
We are using the Mac version on iMacs in our lab, but I tried it on
an eMac and a Powerbook and had the same troubles. I couldn't find a
release version number in the "info" screen.
Thanks for any suggestions.
